Meeting About Medicaid Program

06.17.13 | Abby Lutcher

Beverly Mackereth, the acting secretary of the state Department of Public Welfare, will meet with officials from the federal Department of Health and Human Services, the agency Corbett has been negotiating with to decide whether to expand the health insurance program for low-income people. Expansion is an option for states under the federal Affordable Health Care Act, often called Obamacare. About half of states tentatively agreed to expand. Medicaid covers one in six Pennsylvanians. Corbett has said he is holding out until he is persuaded the expansion will be financially sustainable over the long haul for Pennsylvania.
