Medical Breakthrough For Brain Cancer

11.12.10 | Sarah Harnisch

A woman in California made medical history on Wednesday involving stem cells.  Jenn Vonckx became the first person to have embryonic stem cells injected into her brain to battle cancer.  The four-hour procedure took place after doctors in her hometown of Seattle, Washington declared there was nothing more they could do for her and gave her two months to live. Positive results have been recorded in mice, but Vonckx is the first human in which the procedure has been performed.  It's expected it'll take months before doctors know if it's been successful.
