McDonald's Corp is so buzzed on its gourmet coffee, it's going to splurge on new furniture to match. Get ready for the burger giant's coffeehouse makeover, complete with lounge chairs, plasma TVs and electric fireplaces. Crain's "Chicago Business" says the Oak Brook, Illinois-based McDonald's will start remodeling up to 500 restaurants this year at about a million dollars a pop.

The franchise owners will have to kick in half the costs. Many are still reeling from having to pay 100-grand apiece to buy equipment for the upscale coffee campaign rolled out in recent years. McDonald's says the restaurants will likely make the money back quick and then some, estimating the new look will boost revenue by some eleven-billion dollars a year across the chain. The new decor will also help sell more Angus burgers and other upscale fare. As one analyst told "Crain's," quote, "You can't sell a four-dollar burger in a two-dollar store."
