"Curiosity" is the name for NASA's new Mars rover, which is scheduled for launch in 2011. That name was submitted by Lenexa, Kansas sixth-grader Clara Ma as one of more than nine-thousand entries in the space agency's naming contest for students age five to 18.

In her winning essay, Ma wrote, "Curiosity is such a powerful force. We have become explorers and scientists with our need to ask questions and to wonder." The "Curiosity" Mars rover will be able to check whether certain regions on the Red Planet ever could have supported microbial life. It will also search for minerals formed by water.
