(Harrisburg, PA)  --  Faced with a likely new tax on natural gas, Marcellus Shale drillers have enlisted the help of a political heavy hitter.  The Marcellus Shale Coalition has confirmed that former Pennsylvania Governor Tom Ridge was hired as a "strategic adviser" to work for the group's interests.

Coalition president Kathryn Klaber would not specify Ridge's duties or compensation but said he will stress the industry's commitment to environmental and workforce safety.  Ridge resigned as governor in 2001 to become the director of U.S. Homeland Security and has touted natural gas drilling.
