Teachers could soon be losing their jobs. More than 62-hundred positions are expected to be eliminated statewide. Teachers are not the only ones out of a job. Librarians, administrators and teachers aides will also be laid off.

The loss of teachers comes in an attempt to save money. Teachers' salaries account for one-third of a district's budget.

E.J. McMahon, director of the Empire Center for New York State Policy, says that if teachers were willing to give up their raises, jobs could be saved. Teachers unions refused to revisit their contracts. School budgets are due May 19th.
