Manhunt In Ontario County

Two men who were with them are now in custody. Shortly before 3 p.m. Sunday, police say they received a call for the report of gunshots on East North Street in Geneva. Police were given a vehicle description and a short time later, they found that vehicle along Route 96, not far from the Thruway exit. While officers tried to stop the vehicle, a chase began. The vehicle crashed heading north on Route 96. Police say four suspects ran from the car and that one of the suspects displayed a gun and pointed it at a Geneva police officer. They say that officer shot the suspect, who was taken to the hospital with non-life threatening injuries. A second suspect was apprehended overnight. Police say he walked out of the woods and into custody. A helicopter was seen scouring nearby wooded areas, while deputies closed off a number of roads that intersect Route 96. Those roads were reopened by Monday morning. A hyper reach message went out to residents in the area to notify them of police activity. 13WHAM spoke to several people who live along Route 96 who can't get home and are worried about their families. They described a very intense scene. "We saw cops with guns and stuff, just holding them on the side of the road, it was just shocking," Geneva resident Ralph Stanbrok Jr. said. "Our initial thing was if we couldn't by-pass them going through the street, we'd go through the woods, then the officer that we spoke to advised us not to go in there because the assailant was going through the woods," Geneva resident Brad Brown said. Police tell residents to stay in their homes and ask them to call 911 if they see anything suspicious.
