Major Ny Health Insurer To Run Ads Asking You To Avoid The Er

You may see a bizarre ad on T.V. next week if you live in upstate New York. It asks you to avoid the emergency room.  It's all part of an Excellus Health campaign, as they try to get people to visit a doctor before making a pricey E.R. visit. Excellus is one of the largest health insurers in the state. They say if just 5-percent of insured patients throughout upstate New York avoided going to the E.R. for a minor issue, they would save 10-million-dollars a year. Examples of unnecessary E.R. visits include upper respiratory infections, sore throats, and back pains.
