Low Property Values High Taxes In Upstate Ny

Think you're paying too much in taxes in New York? You are not alone. The conservative think tank "Empire Center for New York State Policy" came out with a report Wednesday that shows many upstate New York communities with low property values have some of the highest taxes in the state. Binghamton was the most heavily taxed last year. On an 80-thousand-dollar home, the taxes were 42-hundred dollars a year. Wealthier communities paid more in taxes, but their homes were worth a lot more, too. Next Tuesday, voters head to the polls to decide if they are willing to raise their property taxes even more to cover school budgets.
