Liquor Privatization Bill Passes Pa House

A bill to open sales of all state-run liquor stores across the state of Pennsylvania has passed the state house. The house-passed bill is seen as historic, erasing depression-era laws about who can run the alcohol business in the Keystone state. There are 600 state run stores, and this bill would allow private businesses like grocery stores to buy a license to sell alcohol on their own. Governor Tom Corbett says it will generate jobs and a billion dollars in revenue. Democrats warn it will put thousands of state store employees out of work and will make alcohol more widely available. The bill still has to pass the state Senate, where it will likely face at least a few amendments.
