Lawsuits Filed Over Defense Of Marriage Act

The Alliance Defence Fund calls it a full blown marriage assault. 2 lawsuits were filed Tuesday-- one in New York City; and a twin lawsuit in Connecticut-- that challenge the Defense of Marriage Act. Gay civil rights groups are trying to build momentum for a possible Supreme Court showdown. They want to strike down portions of the 1996 law that denies married same-sex couples federal benefits. The filing of multiple lawsuits in different states will likely result in rulings in different federal court districts, which means there's a good chance the fight against the definition of traditional marriage will go all the way to the U.S. Supreme Court.
