(Kabul)  --  Afghan President Hamid Karzai says his office receives bags of money from Iran.  Karzai made the startling revelation today, confirming reports that Iran made secret payments of up to six-million dollars each to his government to secure influence and loyalty.

Karzai said the U.S. also makes similar payments, but he insisted that the money is actually a form of aid to help cover expenses at the Presidential Palace.  The Afghan president's comments came after "The New York Times" reported that millions in cash from Iran have been used to pay Afghan lawmakers, tribal elders and Taliban commanders.
