(New York, NY)  --  Jury selection is underway in New York in the federal trial of alleged al-Qaeda terrorist Ahmed Khalfan Ghailani.  Ghailani is the first Guantanamo Bay detainee to face trial in a U.S. civilian court.  He faces more than 250 charges connected to the bombing of American embassies in Tanzania and Kenya that killed more than 200 people in 1998.

Federal authorities say Ghailani is a former aide to Osama bin Laden and has experience in bomb making and forging documents.  He's accused of buying the equipment to make the bombs used in the embassy attacks.  Ghailani denies the accusations and claims he was tortured at CIA black sites before being transferred to the naval base at Guantanamo Bay.
