Its Primary Day In New York State
09.13.12 |
Polls opened at 6 a.m. in Erie county; noon for the rest of the state, and remain open until 9 tonight. The elections today begin a remake of the state legislature, with an unusually high number of retirements, 20 assembly members and 4 state senators. There are also challenges against all 3 Republican senators who voted to legalize same sex marriage in 2011: Mark Grisanti of Erie County, Stephen Saland of Poughkeepsie, and Roy McDonald of Saratoga County. Republicans still hold a slim 33 to 29 majority in the senate. No one is expecting a heavy turnout, which makes predictions difficult.
