(Jerusalem)  --  Israel is planning to build a wall along part of its border with Egypt to help block entry by illegal immigrants and militant Muslims.  A physical wall and electronic surveillance equipment along the border are also aimed at halting the smuggling of weapons into the Jewish state.  In all, the barrier along the Israeli- Egyptian border will be about 165 miles long.

Israel is building similarly controversial fences along its borders with the Gaza Strip and the occupied West Bank.  The Israeli government contends the towering walls, razor wire and electronic fences are needed to prevent terrorists and suicide bombers from infiltrating and striking population centers.
