(Tehran)  --  Iranian President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad is said to be uninjured following a possible assassination attempt.  It happened earlier today while Ahmadinejad was visiting the city of Hamedan in western Iran.  Al Arabiya television reports that an attacker tossed a homemade explosive device at Ahmadinejad's convoy and was detained shortly thereafter.

Ahmadinejad appeared later on live Iranian TV and made no mention of the attack.  No group or organization has claimed responsibility for the incident that came two days after Ahmadinejad stated that "mercenaries" had been hired by what he called "stupid Zionists" to assassinate him.
