(Washington, DC) -- China may impose tariffs on American-made cars, trucks and SUVs exported to that nation. Documents have yet to be translated, but an auto industry official said China has delivered a package of complaints about Sino-American trade to the federal government.

The documents indicate China will start an investigation that could lead to import duties on vehicles sold in China by General Motors, Ford and Chrysler. The Chinese market is not huge for U.S. automakers, who export only about nine-thousand vehicles to China each year.
