(Jakarta)  --  More than 100 people were killed and hundreds of others are missing following an earthquake and tsunami in Indonesia.  The destructive waves pounded remote islands in western Indonesia after yesterday's 7.5 magnitude earthquake off the coast of Sumatra.  Government officials put the latest toll at 108 dead and 502 missing.

Among the missing is a group of between eight and ten Australians who were on a surfing charter boat in the area.  There were conflicting reports on whether yesterday's quake had generated a tsunami.  A few minutes after the temblor, Indonesian authorities issued an alert but later gave the all-clear.
