How Important Is The Us Dollar To Americans
04.02.09 |
Most Americans want to keep the U.S. dollar. According to a new Rasmussen Reports poll, 88-percent feel it is important for the country to retain its own currency, while 70-percent consider this very important. Just three-percent don't think it means much for the U.S. to keep the dollar.
In addition, many Americans are skeptical of a plan to replace the dollar with a new global currency. Just 21-percent of adults in the U.S. see the plan, proposed by China's top government banker and a United Nations panel, as truly intended to help the international economic climate. Nearly 50-percent believe it is an attempt to reduce America's economic power, while 54-percent of investors agree.
However, Americans are not quite as ready to legally protect the dollar Just over 45-percent support a law introduced in the House of Representatives that would block any efforts to replace the dollar with a new global currency, while 33-percent are against passing this type of law.
