Home Repair Grants

The City of Elmira has grants that will pay for 60 percent of repair projects, or up to $12,000 per home for houses in need of improvements. The grants can be used to fix anything on your property, including code violations. The money comes from the New York State Affordable Housing Corporation, and Jennifer Miller says there's plenty of it to go around. “They must own and occupy that property for at least two years, but we have about $500,000 remaining of a $600,000 grant that we received about a year ago,” she explains. You do have to be income eligible for these home improvement grants. You can check in with Elmira’s Department of Community Development to find out if you are.
