The AARP is pushing Governor Cuomo to help them make life easier for New Yorkers 50 years old and older, alleviating the burden on those who care for them. The AARP is asking the governor to include $26 million in the state budget to help clear the state's wait list for services. Right now, more than 70-thousand older New Yorkers are waiting for services such as transportation, home delivery meals and respite care. The group also wants an independent consumer advocate to rally for utility rate payers. Utility companies spend $10 million a year pushing for rate increases. New York pays the highest average residential electric rates in the United States.
