Heat Wave Ushers In New Heat Records In New York And Pennsylvania

The National Weather Service that, on Thursday, the temperature in the city of Brotherly Love reached 99 degrees, beating the previous record of 98 degrees set back in 1933.  Reading, PA hit 98 degrees, tying a record for that city set in 1933, too. Williamsport reached 95 and Harrisburg, 94. Rochester, NY hit 91 on Tuesday, tying the May 31, 1944 record. It was also the hottest day in upstate New York since last September.

The high temperatures resulted in cases of heat exhaustion. Lehigh Valley Hospital in Allentown reported several cases, including two children who had been visiting Dorney Amusement Park. A roofer who suffered heat stroke Wednesday was also admitted and remained at the hospital.
