Health Experts Take All Flu Seriously

(Washington DC) -- A panel of health experts told a House oversight committee Tuesday that people need to take all influenza seriously, both seasonal flu and the H1N1 flu.  Dr. Thomas Frieden, Director of the Centers for Disease Control, says people are more aware of H1N1 because the virus is circulating widely.  He adds most people with mild flu symptoms will not not need testing or treatment.

Frieden says the level of severity for H1N1 flu is, so far, not worse than for seasonal flu.  Frieden says the best preventive tool will be the H1N1 vaccine, which will start becoming available in the next couple of weeks.  Seasonal flu vaccine is already available.
