Governor Corbett's choice for top health adviser laid down the law for abortion clinics in Pennsylvania Wednesday. Dr. Eli Avila is just a nominee to head the Department of Health, but he spoke Wednesday to a joint House-Senate committee about what he would do to fix sub-standard conditions at abortion clinics in the state. He said there needs to be unannounced inspections of all abortion clinics in Pennsylvania, as well as an online complaint system. He said abortion clinics should be held to the same standard as surgical clinics, and complaints should be investigated immediately. The hearing was held in the wake of charges against a Philadelphia abortion doctor for allegedly killing a patient and seven babies at his medical practice.
