Governor Rendell Wants A Budget By Monday
07.30.09 |
(Harrisburg, PA) -- Governor Ed Rendell is putting the squeeze on lawmakers in an effort to move budget negotiations ahead. He says he wants a budget by Monday, or he'll ask house Democrats to pass a bill already approved by the Republican-dominated Senate.
Once that measure passes, Rendell says he plans to use a line-item veto on as many as 600 of 700 items in the budget. Those items include eleven-billion dollars in education funding and 300-million for the legislature itself, according to the "Post-Gazette." Rendell says state police and prison funds would not be touched.
