Governor Paterson Will Take A 10 Pay Cut

New York Governor David Paterson is putting his money where his mouth is regarding making sacrifices during tough financial times. Paterson announced in Buffalo Thursday he will take a ten-percent "symbolic" pay cut due to the recession.

The governor, who makes 179-thousand-dollars a year, says he will make the sacrifice and is not asking other officials to do the same. Paterson says he just wants lawmakers to focus on dealing with the budget gap.

The ten percent pay cut idea seems to have been born from a town hall meeting in Niagara Falls Wednesday night, where one person pitched such an idea for lawmakers as a way to help close the budget deficit.
