(Washington, DC)  --  Warning labels on cigarettes may soon become much more graphic.  The Obama administration is proposing a series of new warnings that include disturbing pictures and colorful images highlighting the negative consequences of smoking.  The proposed images include pictures of an apparent corpse, a person lying in a coffin, and a graphic showing a pack of cigarettes followed by an equals sign and then a tombstone.

The new warnings are part of a new federal law aimed at reducing smoking.  It is estimated that more than 400,000 people die from tobacco use in the U.S. every year.  The new federal law gives the Food and Drug Administration authority to regulate tobacco products.
