Governor David Paterson wants state lawmakers to take a closer look at the results unfunded state mandates will have on local governments. Paterson signed an executive order Monday, in which the cost of mandates on municipalities will be evaluated.

Paterson hopes that better decisions will be made and local governments can get a handle on spiraling property taxes. The Governor notes New York's property taxes are 78-percent higher than the national average. Paterson issued the order as he unveiled a property tax cap proposal in Niskayuna.
