Governor Paterson says a deal has been struck with the state Senate and Assembly that will close this year's one-point-six billion dollar budget gap. However, the Governor says there is along way to go to solve the projected 13-billion dollar gap looming for next year.

Mr. Paterson says half of the cost saving measures being used to fill this year's gap are recurring which will help next year's financial dilemma. The governor says the state could not wait for an economic stimulus package from Washington, instead he says legislative leaders took bold action to get New York's fiscal house in order.
