Gm To Abandon Malibu Hybrid
06.11.09 |
General Motors will pull the plug on the hybrid version of the Chevy Malibu sedan. "The Wall Street Journal" is reporting the move will be made for the 2010 model year. The problem is slow sales. About this time last year as gasoline prices were reaching new records, Americans flooded showrooms looking for fuel sipping hybrids that use both small gasoline engines to charge batteries and electric motors to drive the wheels. Since then gas prices have fallen, drivers have learned to travel less and the desire for hybrids has waned. GM has been left with a large backlog of unsold 2009 model hybrid sedans on dealer lots. The "Journal" says hybrid versions of the Malibu will still be produced for fleet buyers but maybe never again for retail consumers.
