Gm Ends Ebay Auto Sales Experiment

It looked good on paper but General Motors has decided to end an experiment aimed at selling new cars on eBay.  The program, that limited sales to California, began August 11th.  GM dealers in the nation's largest auto market listed their cars and trucks giving buyers an opportunity to purchase at a fixed price or make an offer.  Vehicles purchased through the program could simply be picked up at the dealership where the paperwork and financing were handled.

GM claims the effort was successful attracting 1.5 million visitors to the website and producing 15,000 sales leads for Golden State dealers.  Neither GM or eBay will say how many cars were actually sold.  GM, along with other manufacturers, will continue to sell pre-owned vehicles on eBay.
