The nation's highest court tackles gay marriage today. The U.S. Supreme Court wades into a wide array of same-sex marriage cases, and its actions could put the crowning touch in the gay rights movement, or protect tradtional marriage. The nine justices must decide which case or cases to consider from among seven on their plate. The cases before them include Prop 8 in California to the federal Defense of Marriage Act. The Supreme Court is closely divided. With 5 conservative justices, gay rights groups will need at least one conservative on their side to win.
