An online fundraising campaign online fundraising campaign that was set up to pay for the funeral of an 8-year-old boy who died Monday in a fire in Penfield has more than tripled its goal.

As of 6 p.m. Thursday, the campaign on YouCaring.com had raised more than $54,000 for Tyler Doohan's funeral. Its original goal was $15,000.

On Thursday, Tyler's mother, Crystal Vrooman, expressed gratitude for the outpouring of support.

She said the family was making plans to hire a lawyer "to make sure all the money goes to the right places."

Fire investigators believe Tyler died while trying to save the lives of family members inside the burning trailer at the East Avenue Manufactured Home Community. He's credited with waking six other people in the trailer, who all escaped.

"He was my little hero," Vrooman said, and described Tyler as a boy eager to help others.

Doohan's story has gotten national and international attention in the days since the fire, being featured on CNN, Yahoo! News and several publications overseas.
