Free Air Conditioners In New York

07.22.11 | Sarah Harnisch

If you live in New York and are battling this heat without an air conditioner, there's good news. The state has set aside $3 million through the low-income Home Energy Assistance Program to provide air conditioners to 37,000 homes. Applicants must meet low-income standards, have at least one household member diagnosed with a medical condition aggravated by exposure to extreme heat, and written documentation from a doctor. If you already have a working air conditioner, or have received one from the state in the last 10 years, you are not eligible.
