Israel's movement of ground forces into the Gaza Strip is now in its fourth day. The Jewish nation claims to have killed dozens of militants as fighting moved into the suburbs of the city of Gaza.

Medical officials report 35 Palestinian civilians were killed today in fierce fighting between Israeli forces and Hamas militants. Three people who sought shelter in a UN-run school and eleven in a house that was bombed are among those who were killed.

Calls for a ceasefire in the area have come from President Bush and French President Nicolas Sarkozy, who's on a peace mission to the Middle East.
