Ford Subaru Volkswagen Top Annual List Of Safest New Vehicles

Ford, Subaru and Volkswagen models for 2010 rank highly on the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety's list of safest new cars. Ford and its subsidiary Volvo garnered six picks such as the Ford Taurus and Volvo C30. Subaru's four safety winners included its midsize Tribeca SUV, with Volkswagen's new four-door Jetta and Passat also chosen. The listing includes a total of 19 new passenger cars and eight SUVs that give the best protection in front, side and rear crashes based on insurance industry tests. This year, roof strength was also evaluated. Rollover accidents account for more than nine-thousand highway deaths each year.
