Flight 3407 Discussed At Aviation Safety Forum

The crash of Continental Connection Flight 3407 was one of the main topics of discussion at the annual FAA International Aviation Safety forum yesterday. Flight 3407 had been en route to Buffalo from Newark, New Jersey when it crashed in Clarence Center, New York killing all 49 people aboard and one on the ground last February. Cockpit recorders revealed that in the last moments of the flight, Captain Marvin Renslow and First Officer Rebecca Shaw violated "sterile cockpit" regulations by discussing matters unrelated to the flight. FAA regulations state that nothing besides the flight itself is to be discussed during takeoff and landing. Also discussed were several new safety measures being considered to prevent another crash like Flight 3407.
