Fire District Elections Today In Ny

12.11.12 | Sarah Harnisch

Fire district elections are today across New York state. Voters across the state will elect hundreds of fire district commissioners today. What is a fire district commissioner? They control how your tax dollars are spent in a firehouse, and more importantly, they affect whether and when a crew in a red truck will show up if there's a fire. The vote is taken at each firehouse, so you'll have to go to the firehouse in your town to check the hours and the candidates. Fire district elections are held seperately from the general election because fire district borders don't conform to any other existing election structure.
