The Department of Transportation recently reported nearly six-thousand people died in automotive crashes involving a distracted or inattentive driver last year. Tens of thousands were injured. On Tuesday, Transportation Secretary Ray LaHood opened a two-day Distracted Driving Summit calling the now-common use of electronic devices in a moving vehicle a "menace to society." The DOT says more than 800-thousand vehicles are on U.S. roads at any given moment being driven by someone focusing their attention on a cell phone or other device rather than their driving.
