Fda Commissioner Says More Egg Recalls Possible

(Washington, DC)  --  The head of the FDA says that even more egg recalls are possible.  Commissioner Margaret Hamburg told NBC's "Today Show" that the FDA is still trying to determine whether there are still salmonella-tainted eggs in the marketplace.  Two Iowa companies have spurred the massive recall -- the largest in recent memory.  Wright County Egg has recalled nearly 400-million eggs, while Hillandale Farms announced Friday a recall of more than 170-million.

Also, an Orange County, California, egg distributor is now recalling eggs that were sold to food wholesalers, retail centers and food service companies throughout California and Nevada.  FDA inspectors haven't yet figured out how the eggs became tainted.  Symptoms of salmonella infection include diarrhea, fever, vomiting and abdominal cramps.
