A Pennsylvania company has won more then a million dollars for developing a plane powered by electricity! You've heard of cars powered by electricity-- but what about airplanes?? Pipistrel USA of State College earned the top prize in the Cafe Green Flight Challenge put out by NASA. It was worth 1-million-35-thousand dollars. The plane doubled the fuel efficiency requirement for the competition by flying 200 miles in less than two hours while using a little more than a half-gallon of fuel per passenger. They did that by using electricity for the rest of the flight. NASA says electric aircraft have moved beyond science fiction and are now in the realm of practice. 14 companies tried out for the competition-- of that-- only 3 planes actually made it into the air. One of them was from eastern Pennsylvania.
