Drilling Of Bp Relief Well Complete

The relief well that BP's been drilling in order to finally kill its once-gushing Gulf of Mexico oil well is now complete.  National Incident Commander retired Coast Guard Admiral Thad Allen announced late Thursday that the "Development Driller III relief well has intersected the Macondo well."

The accomplishment comes five months after the Deepwater Horizon blew up and sank in the Gulf, killing eleven workers and triggering the worst offshore oil spill in U.S. history.  Now that drilling of the relief well is complete, BP is preparing to pump cement into the well's outer ring in an endgame move called "bottom kill."  That's expected to happen within a few days.
