Double Hand Transplant Patient To Discuss Surgery Today
09.02.10 |
(Louisville, KY) -- An Oklahoma chiropractor who received a double hand transplant operation will speak about the procedure today. Fifty-five-year-old Richard Edwards lost the use of both of his hands in an accident in 2006. A surgical team of six hand surgeons, 14 hand fellows and a host of anesthesiologists and operating staff performed the procedure at Louisville, Kentucky's Jewish Hospital.
Edwards became only the nation's third double hand transplant recipient. Edwards will be joined by his wife Cindy, Congressman John Yarmuth, and doctors Warren Breidenback and Michael Marvin. Edwards' press conference is scheduled for 10 a.m. Eastern time.
