If you make a donation to earthquake-ravaged Haiti, you'll now be able to claim the deduction on your 2009 taxes. The U.S. House unanimously passed a measure yesterday that will allow American taxpayers to write off donations that help the Caribbean country recover from last week's magnitude seven earthquake. The bill is similar to legislation passed by Congress in 2005 after Hurricane Katrina devastated the Gulf Coast. In all, there were 152 co-sponsors for the Haiti bill, which drew bipartisan support. The Red Cross is reporting that it has collected 127-million dollars toward the earthquake relief effort.
