(Jerusalem)  --  High resolution digital images of the 2000-year-old Dead Sea Scrolls will be available to be viewed online in the near future.  The Israel Antiquities Authority, the custodian of the scrolls, announced today that it is collaborating with Google's research and development center in Israel to upload the images.

The Authority said in a statement the pictures will be like viewing the scrolls in person, helping to preserve them for future generations.  Cameras are set to be installed in the IAA's laboratories early next year making images of the scrolls' 30-thousand fragments available online.
