Dems To Meet With Obama Biden On Tax Cuts Negotiations
12.06.10 |
(Washington, DC) -- Key congressional Democrats will be meeting today with President Obama and Vice President Biden on the tax cut negotiations. A deal on extending Bush-era tax cuts is expected to be nailed down soon. The tax cuts expire at year's end and are the subject of furious negotiations between the White House and Capitol Hill. In procedural votes Saturday, Senate Republican blocked efforts to extend tax cuts only for the middle class. Republicans insist that all the tax cuts be extended, including those for the wealthiest Americans.
One key Senate Republican has signaled support for extending jobless benefits in exchange for extending all the tax cuts. Arizona Republican John Kyl told CBS' "Face the Nation" that unemployment pay should be in the "recipe" for fighting the recession. Republicans have resisted the idea of extending jobless pay past its already record-setting 99-weeks. Some two-million Americans face losing those benefits this month.
