What is next under New York's SAFE ACT? New York Governor Andrew Cuomo made pit stops in Buffalo and Rochester Tuesday to ceremonially sign off on the new state budget. While there, he explained what's next for the SAFE Act. Revised parts of the act were included in the budget. On April 15th, a week from Monday, forms will be released to register all assault weapons across the state. You have 1 year to comply. You have 3 options if you own an assault weapon-- you can sell it to licensed dealer, you can sell it out of the state, or you can register it with state police.
