Uninsured New Yorkers and small businesses will be able to shop for benefit plans from the state's healthcare exchange in October next year, with coverage beginning in January 2014, the Cuomo Administration has announced. New York's healthcare exchange was given conditional approval by the federal government last week. As a component of the Affordable Care Act, it will be a virtual store for individuals and small businesses to compare and enroll in health plans. The state has received 183-million dollars in federal aid to get the exchange set up, and Cuomo expects more than 600-thousand empire state residents and 450-thousand small businesses to use it.
