Court Date Set For Spanier Curley Schultz

11.14.12 | Sarah Harnisch

We have a date. Former Penn State President Graham Spanier and two of his most senior aides face a December 13 Court date on newly filed charges including obstruction of justice, endangering welfare of children and conspiracy. Spanier, retired Vice President Gary Schultz and Athletic Director-On-Leave Tim Curley were charged by Attorney General Linda Kelly's office with leading a "conspiracy of silence" on the Jerry Sandusky child sex abuse scandal. The December date is a preliminary hearing, where the court will decide if prosecutors have enough evidence to warrant a trial.

Jerry Sandusky's lawyers have asked for a 2-week delay. They want more time to file briefs beyond this Friday's deadline, because the Lead Appeals Lawyer, Norris Gelman, had a heart attack and required open heart surgery. Lawyers face a vast amount of material to review in Sandusky's appeal case. He's serving a 60 year prison sentence on 45 counts of child abuse. He's arguing that his sentence was excessive, and evidence was not sufficient.

Meanwhile-- the bill to pay legal fees and consultants has topped 20 million dollars for Penn State University.
