Corbett Defends Shale Gas Industry

Pennsylvania Governor Tom Corbett told an oil and gas industry conference yesterday that opponents of drilling are trying to downplay clear evidence that the shale gas boom is helping the states’ economy. Corbett says anywhere from 20,000 or 30,000 new jobs have been generated directly by the industry.  An online ad supporting the Governor’s re-election drive claims the Shale gas industry supports more than 200,000 jobs in Pennsylvania. Some economists say that number is too high. Former President George W. Bush also addressed the conference in Pittsburgh, which was closed to the press.
